Intro to GRC Workshops
Train Strong: Staffordshire’s First GRC Workshops!
Service Description
We’re proud to be hosting Staffordshire’s first official GRC UK Workshops, led by Carley Stewart - founder of the first GRC club in the UK and Europe, and an official SR1 Judge. What is GRC? GRC stands for Gameness, Relationship, and Control. Gameness: tapping into a dog's natural drive and commitment to the game. Relationship: focuses on the bond and teamwork between dog and handler. Control: teaching emotional regulation and self-control, even in high-arousal environments. GRC is a structured outlet for dogs who enjoy physical activity, working engagement, and clear communication with their handlers. The sport blends elements like spring pole, treadmill work, weight pull, and obedience under arousal - giving dogs the opportunity to express their instincts in a healthy, channeled way while still emphasising manners and cooperation. The workshop will involve introductions to the slat mill, spring pole and weight pull as well as a mini wall-climb, a focus on understanding the Social Responsibility element (GRC’s unique take on everyday obedience) with a demo, and practical work on how to improve and enjoy play as a key part of building drive and connection. This workshop is open to dogs of all breeds and backgrounds, whether you’re looking to compete or just explore a new way to challenge and connect with your dog! We are also offering spectator spots for those interested in GRC to come and chat with GRC Dog Sports UK, learn more about the sport, watch the SR1 demo and dogs trying out the sports, and find out how to get involved!
